I been thinking a lot about marriage for some reason, many people have been asking me what the bible says about marriage and relationships etc. It got me thinking this morning about a situation and had to type up my thoughts.Imagine one day, whether by vision, dream or prophecy, the Lord came upon you and told you who you would marry. I know the first thing you would say is wow, how lucky am I, great!!! Where do I sign! But isn’t there more to it than that, isn’t there a certain fear you would have to face. What if you didn’t know the person that well or at least you thought you didn’t? Although you been told by the almighty who knows all, would you safely hand on heart say you wouldn’t be a little concerned, that you desires wouldn’t get in the way?
Now I want you to put yourself in this predicament, your laying on your bed or at work and God whispers to you that a person you know is going to be your husband/wife. He explains it to be a friend whom you don’t consider yourself to know well. I mean we would it expect it to be someone we know quite well right? Or someone you’ve known for years at least. But say if you didn’t know this person that well, would you still trust his will. Say if you were told of whom your partner shall be and you were happy with the choice, for example you did kind of like that person and knew there was something about them, something special. Would you still commit to marry even within a short time?
A Bishop once told me that she met her husband at the beginning of one year and got married exactly 12 month later. A lot of people would call this crazy but if God says it shall be so, is it still crazy? More so, I’ve met a lot of married Christians and there one thing that always strikes me and its the quick time in which they get hitched. Does time really play a part if God says so considering he lives in eternity? Once he says it, the delay is then with us right?
The bible says in Deuteronomy 28:2 that all God’s blessings will overtake you if you abide in him. Daily we pray for blessings, recently I’ve heard a lot of people praying for the right partner in their life but if God came to you in this way and answered you directly could you comprehend it all? It would be so overwhelming, I guess that’s why the scripture says it will overtake us, it would surpass human expectation and knowledge.
It leads me to think how much do we actually trust God If a prayer of this type is answered and we struggle to believe it?
If given the all clear should we not just dive right in, despite any reasons you may sense or see with your carnal knowledge. I mean we walk by faith and not sight, right?
So I leave you with this question;
If God came unto you tonight while you slept and told you to marry a person whom you never knew very well yet really liked, only knew for a short time and didn’t for-see the ability to marry that person in terms of finances etc, would you do it within good time?

ReplyDeleteTo answer your question: Yes I would! This is pretty much what happened to us. When I met my husband God told me after just a few weeks that he was the one, and he got the same revelation which means we weren't scared to talk about marriage very early on. We got engaged a year later and got married the following year. It was the best decision we had ever made. I would say, pray about it and be sure it is not a product of your imagination, make sure it is from God, and the only way to be sure is to listen to God's voice. If you have a deep relationship with God you will know how to distinguish God's voice from your own desires and thoughts. God bless you and keep up the good work, love, Waiki.
